Applied kinesiology or Functional neurology is a manual method of diagnosis which uses muscle testing (evaluating the motor response of the central nervous system to a sensory challenge) to identify and treat structural, biochemical and mental/emotional problems or imbalances in the body.

It was originally developed by the American Chiropractor George Goodhardt, but is now also practised by some osteopaths, medical doctors, homeopaths and dentists.

It fits ideally into the manual approach of osteopathic health care.

Functional biochemistry is an evolving aspect of Applied Kinesiology, which aims to restore normal biochemical function using nutritional and natural medicine intervention. Pharmaceutical medicine on the other hand, is generally designed to block normal biochemical function and is therefore symptomatic in approach.

In my own healing work I use Applied Kinesiology in a variety of ways:

For example to diagnose and treat toxic problems
(i.e. anything that obstructs and disturbs normal and healthy bodily function), such as;

• Candida overgrowth (yeast infection)
• Post viral or bacterial infections
• Parasite or fungal infections
• Food allergies and intolerances
• Chemical toxicity
• Metal toxicity (mercury, aluminium, lead etc)

To help the body to eliminate toxic problems, like the above, is a very important part of recovering and restoring health and vitality.

I also use applied kinesiology to assess the body’s nutritional status and to make very precise and effective interventions, using nutrition or herbal remedies. This is another very important aspect of recovering and restoring health and vitality.

Insidious toxic problems and nutritional deficiencies are often underlying causes of:

• Musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction
• Fibromyalgia
• Depression
• Tiredness and chronic fatigue (ME)
• Asthma
• Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
• Bloating and poor digestion
• Thrush
• Itching
• Irritability
• Poor concentration
• Migraine
• and many other symptoms.

When a person presents with poor health, and any of the many symptoms associated with it, it is important to understand that there are often many layers of problems, all contributing to the situation, and that it might require time and patience to get healthy again.
